The Large Hadron Collider was successfully started up today in Switzerland and has been called one of the most "ambitious experiments ever."

What was the greatest experiment/endeavor in your opinion?

Zac you are such an inspiration to me learn more about what is going on in the world. I do good to keep up with what is going on in my own home and there is only me and my husband. hee hee I am sad and embarrased to say that this year is the first time in my life (40 years old) that I have even followed the election. I know that it is probably taboo to do but I would really like to hear what you think about the election.
sorry I got side tracked.... As far as the answer to your question I am not for sure that I understand it. Your mind is so much like a Merritt. I read the article and found it very intersting. Some say it might cause a black hole and some say it won't. I guess we will have to wait and find out to see who is right. The titanic was said by many it would not sink and we know how that story ends. It will however be intersting to find out what they find. Thanks for sharing this with us. I will be watching for more about it. What do you think about it?

Raquel,
Don't feel bad about this being the first time you've followed an election. You're not alone. Most people are repulsed by politics because it's mostly, and especially presidential elections, a giant charade.
As for what I think about the election, there is no short answer to the question. To boil it down, I would vote for Obama if I could. I also admire Ron Paul very much, although I disagree with many of his proposed policies. I think his foreign policy is the best any candidate has offered. I also think that the GOP failed in not nominating him.
As for my original question, it's pretty open ended. Pretty much any endeavor or experiment will do. A few examples could be the Apollo Program, Columbus's Voyage, The Conquest of Mexico (not quite admirable but risky enough), The Revolutionary War, Democracy, Cecil Rhodes Conquest of South Africa (also not admirable), MLK and the Civil Rights Movement, Phoenecian Voyages, etc... I personally haven't made up my mind, although I am always partial to the Apollo Program.
As for the black hole business, that's just silliness. Having studied astronomy, I can think of about five more probable way that life on Earth could end... and I don't worry about a single one... well maybe just one... and it's not global warming. It would solve global warming though. :)
On a lighter note I read your post about the Reno family. Interesting stuff. I left a comment.
